Buying a bike online is easier than you think. Here’s some information on how our bikes are sized up and how to measure all of the important parts of your body like they never taught you in school. If you’re still unsure, then email us and we’ll do our best to help.
How are bike frames measured?
Bike sizes are taken from the seat tube length. This is the measurement from the centre axle bolt (bottom bracket) to the top of the seat tube.
Choosing the right size
Each product page shows a height range for the frame sizes available (check the ‘Size & Spec’ tab). For even more accuracy, find yourself a tape measure and follow these steps:
- Stand against a wall with your shoes off
- Keep your legs together and your shoulders back
- Place a pencil flat on top of your head and mark the wall
- Measure the distance from the mark on the wall to the floor
Stuck between sizes?
If you’re between sizes, then the next step is to hold your arms out like a golden eagle and measure your wingspan (sound effects are optional).
- Hold your arms out and measure from fingertip to fingertip across the top of your chest.
- To find out whether you have a short or long reach, calculate your ‘Ape Index’ (your arm span measurement minus your height).
- If you have a positive Ape Index, then go for the larger size. If you have a negative Ape Index, then go for the smaller size.
All of our sizes take into account the stand over height (clearance between the top tube and your private parts) and allow around 1 to 2 inches clearance.
Save fuel, save your health, save your relationship, save the planet, save money (you get the idea) and never get stuck in traffic again. Cycle schemes are government initiatives that give you up to 42% off the price of a new bike through tax and National Insurance savings. They’re open to all UK residents looking to buy a new bike and whose employer is signed up with one of the schemes below. If your company has its own cycle scheme or you want to buy a bike through your company, then we can do this too.
We work with the following schemes:
If your company has it’s own cycle scheme or you want to buy a bike through your company then we can do this too.
What can I buy with the scheme?
Any of the bikes on our site, including our custom builds. You can even add on safety gear and accessories such as locks, lights and helmets. Unfortunately, sale prices are not included with cycle schemes.
How do I place an order?
Shine a light in their eyes and ask your employer these questions:
- What is the price limit for your cycle to work scheme?
- Can additional top-up payments be made on top of the cycle to work voucher?
- How long does it usually take to supply the information to the scheme and to us?
- What are the terms and conditions from your employer and the scheme provider?
Once you have all your answers, you then need to send a quote to your employer. To do this, add your order to the shopping cart on our
website. At the final checkout page, select ‘Cycle Scheme’ as the payment option. Follow the instructions to upload your certificate/voucher and complete your order
When will I receive my bike?
You have 28 days from the date of the order to send us your voucher. We’ll be in touch when the voucher arrives to collect any additional payments (including the admin fee). Once you have paid the balance, we’ll aim to send the bike out ASAP. All our bikes are built to order, so the exact time can vary. If we don’t receive the voucher 28 days later, then your order will be cancelled and zombies will take over the world.
How do I provide a certificate/voucher to Mango Bikes?
See above section on “How do I place an order?”.
Cycle to work scheme FAQs
Who is the legal owner of the bike?
Your employer remains the legal owner of the bike until the end of the lease period. At that point, your employer can either choose to keep the bike or sell it to you for a ‘nominal sum’ as laid out in the terms of their scheme. This alone is a good reason to make them a cup of tea in the morning.
Can I order a bike with a higher value than the voucher and pay the remaining balance myself?
That’s fine by us, but we recommend that you check with your employer to make sure that their specific cycle scheme allows this within the terms.
Why can’t I order a bike that is on sale??
We’re charged for each cycle scheme order. Our prices are already incredibly lean and we’d simply end up losing money if we offered our sale bikes through schemes. If you don’t mind doing some legwork and you’re looking for a way around this, then employer can learn how to administer the scheme themselves and we can then invoice the company instead

- You are 18 or over, and employed at least 16 hours per week, or are retired and in receipt of a private or company pension (aged 50 or over at date of application).
- You have a good credit history with no late payments, debt relief orders, CCJs, IVAs or bankruptcies.

How long does it take to apply online?

Your application is then instantly sent to the finance company and most applicants should have a yes or no within about 10 seconds, although sometimes it takes longer to process. If we can’t give you an instant decision for whatever reason, we’ll follow up on email as soon as we reach a decision.

No problem. You have the right under section 66A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 to withdraw from the credit agreement without giving any reason within 14 days of receiving delivery.
Will the finance company perform a credit check?
Yes. A credit check forms part of the automated decision making process and is part of a responsible lending policy.
Do I need a bank account?
Yes. You must have a UK bank account capable of accepting Direct Debits.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes. If your credit application is successful, you will need to pay a deposit online using a credit or debit card. This amount is shown in the credit summary (displayed in the top left of the screen throughout the credit application form) and on the credit agreement itself.
How do I repay the loan?
Your monthly repayments are collected by Direct Debit. You have the right to make a partial or full early repayment at any time. If you want to arrange this, please contact Close Brothers Retail Finance for details by phone, email or letter using the contact details below:

When you place an order with us, your bike is built from the ground up by trained bike technicians in our UK warehouse. Your bike and its parts go through a number of various quality tests before, during and after assembly. We also ensure that you bike will be “good to go” as soon as you’ve got it built out the box. As soon as your order is placed, it will be put into a build schedule and you’ll be kept up to date at each stage of the build.
Once your bike has been built it will be put on a next working day service to the UK and on a 2-3 working day service to Europe. When your order is dispatched you’ll receive an email from DX/UPS with an estimated delivery date and tracking information.
See estimated dispatch times for each bike on product pages. For delivery prices and timing, see below.

Your happiness levels are of paramount importance to us. Once you order one of our bikes, you are no longer a random person on the Internet – you’re one of us. As such, you automatically get a three-year warranty on the frame and one-year warranty on components. If on the odd chance you need to send something back or make a warranty claim, this is the place to find out how. To put your mind at ease, our default position is to restore your inner equilibrium and make you feel looked after at all times. If you need to speak to us in person, please call 01285 706 102 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Refunding your order
You have the right to return your order (unused) within 30 days for a full refund if you are not completely satisfied for whatever reason. If you want to swap for a different item, then the simplest and quickest thing to do is place a brand new order for your new item and return the old one to us for a full refund. Unfortunately, the customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping in this instance (approximately £20-£30 for a bike, depending on the courier and service). Bike returns will also incur a £25 restocking fee. If you’re returning an item because it’s faulty or damaged, then we’ll always refund you the postage cost.
How to return your order:
If you have a problem with your order, then you might not need to return it for us to help. Before taking the next steps, please email us (preferably with a photo) and we’ll try to work out what’s going on. If there’s no easy way around it, then here’s what you need to do.
- Put your unused, labelled item for return back in its original packaging.
- Fill in a returns form and include this with the item you are returning.
- Post the item back to Mango Bikes (our address is on the returns form) making sure the item is securely packaged to avoid damage. Contact us for instructions if needed.
- Email email@example.com and let us know your return item is on the way.
- We’ll be in touch if there are any issues and/or when your return has been processed. Please allow up to 10 working days for us to process your return.
Cancelling your order
If for whatever reason you need to cancel your order, we’ll refund the full amount of an accessory/component order provided you contact us within 24 hours of purchase. Standard stock bikes and custom bikes can be cancelled within 48 hours of purchase. If you contact us after this time period then there’s a good chance we’ll already be working on your bike or will already have shipped your order. If this is the case and the bike parts have already been picked and allocated, then we charge a £25 restocking fee. If work hasn’t begun or your order is still in our workshop, then we’ll do our best to honour your request to cancel.
